Dear ReCommon Community,
After three incredible years of conversations, collaborations, and research, we’ve made the difficult decision to bring the ReCommon project to a close.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported us throughout this journey—our board of directors, members, donors, and all those who engaged with and shared our writings and podcasts. It has been an honor to connect with so many inspiring people and projects from around the world.
While this journey has been deeply rewarding, it has not been without its challenges. Like many in the impact space, we faced financial constraints that limited our ability to scale effectively. Though we received occasional support, such as grants from Gitcoin, the enthusiasm of project organizers we connected with wasn’t matched by the financial resources needed to carry out the work. This disconnect between potential impact and sustainable funding is a common challenge, often leading to “impact founder burnout.” We attempted to shift to a new business model but were unable to secure capital and land contracts quickly enough.
Despite these hurdles, this experience has provided invaluable lessons about the importance of aligning vision with resources. The work remains critically important, and it’s clear that many across the globe are ready to embrace new systems of land tenure and governance. While ReCommon as an organization will no longer continue, the work we’ve done will live on as a resource and, I hope, as an ongoing source of inspiration for building resilient bioregional communities.
ReCommon was born from a deep place in my heart and soul. Although the entity itself is coming to an end, this mission is far from over. I’m continuing this work through my personal consulting services, and I’d be delighted to stay connected. If you’d like to collaborate, you can reach me at AlexCorren.com.
Thank you for being part of this journey. I’m optimistic about the regenerative future we’re building together and excited for the opportunities and collaborations that lie ahead. This is not an end, but the beginning of a new chapter.
With love and gratitude,
Alex Corren & the ReCommon team
