Impact Mapping Service | Quadratic Funding Round | Bioregional Financing Facilities | Blue Dot Brief
Welcome to the first edition of our relaunched monthly newsletter, ReCommon Reflections!
Admittedly, in the past, we've been inconsistent with our external communications. We're fixing that. We want to keep you all up to date with what we're building. The relaunch of this newsletter marks a renewed commitment to sharing our work via monthly updates.
That said, let's dive right in!
1. New Mapping Service Offering
We are super excited to announce our new service - ReCommon Maps - dedicated to impact mapping for place-based projects. This offering emerged from years of connecting with regenerative project leaders worldwide and recognizing that quality maps to show impact were missing for most projects. This is due to various reasons, including that mapping data is hard to find, hard to format, and hard to work with. Also, many of the available mapping tools have steep learning curves that require someone with a background in GIS.
ReCommon Maps solves these issues. Our service creates a pathway for any impact project to use robust maps to inform project decisions and then to communicate those decisions to other stakeholders. From land trusts to impact investors, regenerative farmers to real estate developers, a good map is invaluable for maximizing and sharing your impact.
ReCommon is a part of Giveth's first-ever "GIV-Earth QF Round," a grant round with a $40,000 matching pool of funds for organizations focused on the environment!
Quadratic Funding (QF) is a crowd-funding mechanism that amplifies available resources by inviting community members to make donations (big or small) that act as votes on where to allocate funds. The broader the support, the bigger the match! (wtfisqf.com).
Anyone can donate on Giveth, however, in order for a donation to qualify to be matched during quadratic funding rounds, you donor must verify you Gitcoin Passport before the end of the round. You don’t need to verify your passport right away, but you must have a Passport score above the specified threshold before the round ends in order for any of your in-round donations to count towards the matching.
Confusing? You're not alone. Shoot us a message, and we can help.
A powerful new publication was just released - Bioregional Financing Facilities: Reimagining Finance to Regenerate Our Planet, by Samantha Powers and Leon Seefeld. ReCommon is included as a case study in the book, alongside other innovative organizations at the intersection of capital, bioregionalism, and technology. Supported by the Buckminster Fuller Institute, Dark Matter Capital Systems, and others, this work is sure to influence the movement for years to come.
An excerpt from the forward:
"This book makes an argument for the decentralization of financial resource governance, and the organization of project portfolios for systemic change, to enable financial capital to reach the people and initiatives best positioned to contribute to global regeneration. It makes the case for the urgent development and piloting of a new structure to support this decentralization – the Bioregional Financing Facility (BFF) – which every bioregion on Earth could create to support its transition to a regenerative economy. We believe that BFFs can help align financial flows with living systems principles and Indigenous wisdom, to serve the thriving of all life on Earth – a mission shared by all of us who contributed to this book."
Blue Dot Project, a ReCommon partner, just launched their inaugural issue of the Blue Dot Brief - a concise email update for busy impact investors who want to enable regenerative living on Earth. Even if you're not an impact investor, you're guaranteed to learn something from this easy-to-read email with great insights on the industry. The Blue Dot Brief is a great complement to the Blue Dot Podcast, mentioned in the issue.
That's all for this month of ReCommon Reflections. You can reply to this email with any questions, feedback, or just to say hello. We'd love to hear from you. Thanks for reading!
